I believe it's time for numerous Affiliate Marketers (AM) to reevaluate their methods for building their websites Search Engine position. I have been using Blog and Ping techniques for about a year now, however blog and ping is gradually losing its effectiveness because so many AM's are utilizing the method.
If you have been living on the dark side of the moon, then you may not know what Blog and Ping is about. Well, in a nutshell, blog and ping is a technique for boosting your websites position by creating blogs and utilizing software which automatically posts to those blogs together with links back to your main website. The blogs then ping Blog services to notify them that some new content is available. The ping services then attract Search Engine spiders and in a short time, your web site is spidered.
This solution worked like like a charm around a year ago (2005), but is losing its effectiveness simply because all the blog and ping tools create mediocre content that is all based on Search Engine scrapes or RSS feeds. You end up getting a blog website packed with useless info with links back to your web page. The Search engines have caught on and they're able to filter out the bad content. In fact, it might actually be hurting your website. There's no proof yet, but I would expect that all the SE's will soon start penalizing websites that are trying to increase their position via blog and ping techniques.
That brings me to articles. Around four months back, I wrote an article and posted it to ArticleCity. After I submitted it, I forgot about it. Just yesterday, in the course of a moment of boredom, I thought of that article and made the decision to do some research. Had anyone picked it up? A quick search on Google showed that the article has been published on 802 different websites! I also realized that after Google's last update, the Page Rank (PR) of my affiliate marketing web site went up nicely from 3 to 5.
This was with just One Article submitted to simply One Article Website that I put together in half an hour. I was floored.
Considering how much time I've spent configuring blog and ping software, how many unneeded domains I've purchased to make traffic all look like it's coming from different directions, how hard I have worked attempting to find content for the B&P software, etc.... I would've been much better off simply writing fine, informative articles.
Another huge reason to choose Articles over Blog and Ping is content longevity. Your article will be posted onto numerous websites. Perhaps hundreds of websites. That content is real and meaty, exactly like what Google and others are trying to find. It is not bogus content which will get yanked by the SEs. This means that algorithm update after algorithm update, the articles that point back to your web site will remain within the search engines. This is HUGE.
Over the last couple of months, Google has made a number of updates to their algorithm which resulted in Plenty of websites losing their rankings. My website, which depended on One Article and no blog and ping actually went up in the rankings.
So if you've been utilizing Blog and Ping to promote your website and you have been unhappy with the results, this is the time to consider writing articles and publishing them on the Article web sites.
